PREVENTING ODORS FROM DRY SINK TRAPS

Filling the dry sink traps with water to seals out odors from the drain pipes and stops these terrible smells from entering our labs.  We should also run water in the sinks they do not normally use -- the cup sinks. Why do we have a special waste collections day?

A safety narrative. We have a special waste collection day to make the building safer by getting rid of all the unwanted, unsafe, and unlabeled chemicals.  I get rid of material when I notice it is unused, bad, or expired, but some researchers, however, don't do that.   So this is a great opportunity to designate chemicals as waste.   If you have unstable chemical waste and are concerned about it reacting in the waste room this is the best time to get rid of it.  The chemical disposal specialis...

[TBA] Battery Disposal

Option 1.) Used batteries can be placed in the identified recycling battery box in Chevron 234 near the door by Mary Beth’s desk. Please tape up the ends of the batteries, cover the terminals so the batteries cannot connect, heat up, and catch on fire. Option 2.) Place the batteries in a box and apply a completely filled out a chemical waste label to the box. Place the box in the 255 Chevron waste room.

Sharps Disposal Non-Biological and Biological

For Non-Biological Sharps Please put an orange chemical waste sticker over the biohazard label on your red sharps container.  Write on the label Non-Biological sharps, then fill out the waste label completely (Name, Dept., Date, and Phone number on the bottom).  Then put the sharps disposal container in the waste collection area for your building or the Chevron 255 waste room.  There is a shelf labeled sharps on the back top left in the Chevron waste room.
